In April 2024, Dr. Gavrilova delivered 2024 Lecture of a Lifetime, presented by the University of Calgary Chancellor and Senate. Dr. Gavrilova was a first-ever recipient from the Faculty of Science, with event registrations hitting the limit capacity of 600 - a record attendance in the 16-year history of the event.
The seminal lecture: Understanding of Human Identity through AI-Inspired Biometric Research provided an in-depth discussion of the core challenges and ethical considerations in the development of AI-powered transformative technologies. The event featured i-person presentations and video tributes from prominent lab alumni, Q&A session with Dean of Faculty of Science, UCalgary Chancellor introduction, and UCalgary Vice-President award ceremony.
“I am grateful to everyone who found time to attend this celebration of excellence in research, teaching and engagement at the University of Calgary. This incredible event was much more than about my scientific journey from an aspiring student to a world-renown researcher - it's about a community of colleagues, mentors, trainees, friends and family, that was on full display during this uplifting and inspiring event!” Professor Marina L. Gavrilova, PhD’99
